Dell XPS, 24 Inches Super Sized
Dell’s XPS! Yes, it’s the new product by Dell that joins Apple, Sony, and HP in the large screen all-in-one category. It’s the new 24-inch model. Price starts at $1,699, and the new XPS One 24 will come in regular and (PRODUCT) RED versions. Each includes a 2.3GHz Intel Core 2 Quad E8200 processor, 4GB of RAM, and a variety of multimedia-friendly features, according to CNET
CNET furthe rsays that they’re concerned that the new XPS One 24 has only the 32-bit version of Windows Vista. They’ve seen $500 desktops with 64-bit Vista (from Dell, no less), as well as other all-in-ones, like Sony’s Vaio JS190J, so its absence here is troubling for those interested in using this system for memory-intensive tasks, like digital media editing.
Mainframe Pcs
You might wonder what a mainframe server is used for? While its use is limited, a mainframe server can be used as a file server for a very large organization (this usually means the government or government contracted organizations). Large universities and research organizations also use mainframes for various projects. Mainframes can be clustered together to harness the power of multiple servers and perform a single task. Cancer researchers use clusters of IBM servers to perform linear algebra and other mathematical operations needed to complete research. On the fun side, Sun Microsystems is now leasing their enterprise servers to certain groups such as animators and graphics producers to perform rendering.
Computer Technology
Computer technology has become so affordable that small business can take full advantage of technology
previously available only to the largest corporations. Computer systems can coordinate sales, inventory and accounting into one easy to use, fully integrated
business system.

Samsung claims lightweight crown for new laptop
Samsung has unveiled a new thin-and-light laptop aimed at mobile professionals, claimed by the vendor to be the lightest system available with a 13.3in screen.
Available from September, the Samsung X360 weighs 1.27kg, but is fully featured without any compromise, according to Samsung. It is based on Intel’s Centrino 2 mobile platform with 1GB to 4GB of memory and a choice of 120GB hard drive or Flash SSD storage up to 128GB. Prices have yet to be announced.
Samsung claimed a battery life of up to 10 hours continuous use from the X360’s 6-cell battery pack, while the 13.3in screen supports a resolution of 1280×800 and an LED backlight that delivers about 33 per cent extra brightness over other designs.

Space Station Laptops Infected By Malware
Malware has managed to get off the planet and onto the International Space Station (ISS), NASA confirmed today. And it’s not the first time that a worm or virus has stowed away on a trip into orbit.
The attack code, which space news site SpaceRef.com identified Monday as “W32.Gammima.AG,” infected at least one of the laptops used on the station, an international effort headlined by the U.S. and Russia.
National Aeronautics and Space Administration spokesman Kelly Humphries declined to identify the malware, saying only that antivirus software detected a worm on July 25.

Hacking Is Not A Crime: Especially When University Teaches It!
University students are to be taught the art of computer hacking, it has been announced.
The MSc ethical hacking and computer security course will give postgraduate students “detailed knowledge of electronic attacks”.
The University of Abertay, in Dundee, says its course will teach participants to identify vulnerabilities in computer systems and come up with methods to protect them. It is the first course of its type in the UK.
By becoming “ethical hackers”, the course’s graduates are in a position to work for computer companies and other large firms to protect networks.
It is predicted graduates could be earning up to £60,000 annually within a couple of years of completing the course.
Professor Lachlan MacKinnon, head of the school of computing and creative technologies, said years of “complacency and ignorance” in the industry meant there was a lack of security experts. He said: “There’s an enormous shortage of people with relevant skills to work on the security side of this industry.

Desktop Chips For Business By AMD
The new chips include the 2.4-GHz Phenom X4 9750B Quad-Core; the 2.4-GHz Phenom X3 8750B Triple-Core; the 2.9-GHz Athlon X2 5600B Dual-Core and the 2.5-GHz Athlon X2 4850B Dual-Core processors.
Recently, AMD has its sights decidedly set on the expanding and lucrative laptop market. In June, for example, the chip maker ramped up its competition with Intel by unveiling its first processor system designed specifically for laptops. AMD has long been a wannabe in the laptop arena by modifying desktop processors for mobile systems.
